A latest UNESCO report declares India’s illiterate population largest in the world.

India has millions of children who are not in school and many of their parents do not realize that education can change their lives.  AlphaBet Club with its implementation partner Building Blocks India are changing lives of many such families in Bangalore, India.  These children live in slums in Bangalore and attend ABC Freesia School.  Here they gain respect, equality with peers, confidence and willingness to learn to succeed in school.  ABC Freesia is currently working with 97 children this academic year.

Here’s a peek of how Freesia provides all this at no cost to their students.

Learning is great fun – is what we show children at Freesia.  Activities are child centric and the paramount is, they learn as they are playing!  Learning is a “way of life” at Freesia.  Thanks to all the teachers, support staff and the curriculum coordinators who are dedicated to their work and love what they do.

On a typical day, child learns Math in “Math is Fun”, Blending sounds of the English alphabet, alphabet writing practice, circle time highlighting what is the date, day, weather and what they would learn on that day, social studies for improving social skills, health and hygiene.  They are also well fed with a balanced nutritious meal twice a day.

Writing practice to reinforce what they learn visually.

Nutrition:  How much of importance we give to this can be only justified by the pictures that we can show.  Lot of thought process is involved in picking the fresh veggies to washing them thoroughly to cooking them with lots of love and serving to the children.  Our kitchen staff keeps the kitchen clean and cooks meals in hygienic conditions.
