Edelweiss School September 2014 Newsletter Update

September has been an exciting month at ABC-Edelweiss. We have seen a lot of events, activities and a wide range of learning by children at our Edelweiss School.  Join us as we share these moments with our ABC members!  Volunteers from Blue Jeans Co. have given our school a face lift by painting the school.  Sandra from Action Care Dubai visited our center.  Teacher’s day was celebrated on 5th September with all the students and teachers.  Also, September born children celebrated their birthdays with their friends at school.

Learning Focus

K4 Math

Numeration 1-5, plus 0 was achieved by the following activities.  Symbol, play dough numerals, grainy numerals, numeral rubbings, numeral hunt, the empty set, symbol for zero, adding zero to the number line, equation boards, slide the sum, paper clip.

Circle time Story: Counting clover leaves.

keywords used were adding on, equals, minus, numeral, subtraction, two, addition, five, none, one, sum, zero, counting on, four, number, plus, symbol.

K5 Math

Numeration 1-5, plus 0 and numeration of 6-10 was the focus.  Activities used for learning were symbol for zero using play dough numerals, grainy numerals, equation board, slide the sum, symbolic representation, number bags, visual sets, symbol, play dough numerals, number plates, number book, number kites, number rope.

Circle time story- Counting Clove Leaves and Mrs. Granger’s Flower bed.

Keywords used- adding one equals, minus, numeral subtraction, two, counting on, four, nine, numeral six, zero, addition, empty set, ten

K4 English

Blending sound oo, y, ie, ee, or, z, w, ng, v achieved through story action, formation, dictation.  Words used were tie, pie, bee, fork, corn, ring, wing, van, vest, cook, yes, yell, and yak

K5 English

Reading sentences from Pupil book 2.  “Your jumper is not too big for you”.  Words used were bag, net, bin, box, mug, you, your, some, come, said, here, smile, nose, cake.  Tricky words go, no, so were learnt.

K4 Health and Hygiene

Activities on care of nails, eating a good breakfast, exercise, wearing clean clothes, drinking plenty of water, playing outside

K4 Genki English

“Doctor Doctor”, Thank you song, where are you going?  Achieved through word pictures mini lesson, song game and game karaoke

K5 Genki English

Come one come on, eat drink dance, 13-20.  Achieved through word pictures, mini lesson, song, game, karaoke

Nutrition

Well balanced nutritious meals served twice a day during the month helps these children keep malnutrition at bay.  Children were fed eggs, milk, ragi cereal, and chickpea beans for their breakfasts and Lentil curry with vegetables, meat, rice and salads for their lunch.  After School Program (ASP) children were given milk and snacks at our center.

Under nutrition/health and hygiene, children were taught to take care of nails, eat a good breakfast, exercise, wear clean clothes, and drink plenty of water.  Reviewed hand washing and table manners

 

Visitors

Sandra from Action care, Dubai visited our center on 2nd September.

Jonathan our volunteer English language teacher trainer visited Edelweiss and trained the teachers in English language usage

Special Celebration

Edelweiss celebrated Teachers Day on 5th September 2014.  Teachers and Students  cut the cake together.  Teachers put on a dance show and entertained the students

Building Blocks organization also, had a spectacular celebration to honor the teachers.  A grand gala day of celebrations with extravagant food and music was arranged to mark the Teachers Day.  Thank you teachers for the remarkable job that you do!

Happy birthday to all September born Edelweiss kids!

A special parents meeting was called on an emergency basis to brief them on school rules and warnings were given to parents of children on continuous absenteeism.

Blue Jeans Co. volunteers gave a face lift to the building by painting five classrooms and by creating a mural painting in front of the school. Thank you Blue Jeans Volunteers for choosing Edelweiss for this amazing job that you have done!
