February has been a fun packed month of learning at Edelweiss.  We  have had some exciting training sessions, refreshing the vision of the teachers and staff to continue their efforts to help make a difference in the lives of the children.  We also have had a re-envisioning parent-teacher meeting to help inspire the parents to continue the journey of training and educating their children for the future and to instill in them the importance of education.

February is the ninth month of the eleven month school year. Students in Edelweiss are fast progressing in their academics as well in other aspects of their daily lives such as hygiene, safety, health and nutrition.

During the day school, the K4 and K5 students have an interesting curriculum that they get to learn. The main theme for this month was ‘water’. The teacher taught the K4 children the difference between pure and impure water, its sources and uses.
The students were taught about safety at home, along with listening to their elders. They also learned about dental hygiene by learning how to brush their teeth. In each class, one of the students is picked as a class leader who helps his or her fellow classmates in doing activities during circle time. In this class, the children learned about matching numbers with objects. The K5 students are learning to identify the missing numbers in their Math class, along with building their vocabulary. Genki English for this month focused on the phrase – “where do you live?” Kids enjoyed a lot of reading time as well. They loved reading different stories in English. Nutrition: This month Edelweiss served 3,294 nutritious meals.

The children attending the After School Program go to other English medium schools during the day. Every evening the Edelweiss teachers help them with their homework and also brush up their English speaking skills. They are also provided a nutritious meal every day. The ASP – After School Program at Edelweiss is attended by about 17 children every day.
