“On September 5th, Edelweiss celebrated Teachers Day to express gratitude for the wonderful work that teachers do all year long. Edelweiss takes great pride in their staff and students look up to their teachers as their role models.  Parents of students participated in this celebration feeling thankful towards the good level of education their children receive here. On the 7th of September, Building Blocks organized a memorable day out for the teachers at the Garden Asia Resort as a sign of appreciation.

Curriculum

Math

Fun with Math – Sand table

This month they learned about even and odd numbers. They also learned to write numbers from 1-100 and fill in missing numbers. They were also able to read and circle the correct numbers of tens and ones family.  They learned addition through concepts.

K4 children learned to order numbers through circle time stories and with activities like – flannel board hearts, kids in all sizes, play dough balls, seeds, tall towers, snake chambers, length of yarn, board jump, weighted cans, sock it to me, egg weights, sandy texture, rising waters, tone bottles, button grabs, hang the shirts and kites.

English

Jolly Sounds ‘ai’

K5 – Practicing writing letter “S”

In Jolly Phonics K5 reviewed jolly sounds.  They learned to blend, segment and to read high frequency words, CVC words and tricky words. They also learned how to blend the words by using diagraphs. They were made to read simple sentences from simple reader.

K4 children learned sounds of letters for f, b, j, z, a, i, r, m, d, g through story, action, formation and also by blending.

Local Language Kannada:

This month they learned correct formation of letters from e to oo

Social Science

Sensing different tastes – Taste buds!

K5 – Shakeup time

This month they learned about neighboring states, cities, languages, famous monuments and famous personalities of India

K4 children during this month they learned about how the four seasons affect the weather conditions.  Also, they learned the different types of weather conditions while engaging in different fun class activities.

Value Education

Mr. Josef – bringing stories to life!

The theme of the month in value education was “Loving Ones Country”.  Through activities and with stories children were taught to – Love your country and about big home-India.  Also, stories with moral were read to them, which were – Hurting you hurting me-Don’t hurt, Love your family-A glass of love, Being helpful-Helpful Alagi!

K3 Program

K3 – Learning vegetables name

K3 – Doctor a community helper!

This month they learned about shapes and colors and also they started fun with math classes.

In Jolly Phonics, they started to learn about Jolly Phonic aspects through – environmental sounds, instrumental sounds, body percussion, rhythm and rhyme.  Also, children learned being attentive with stories and activities.

Proficiency testing

An evaluation was conducted for K3, K4 & K5 on 15th September by Building Blocks curriculum coordinators Susan, Meher and Selvi.  Results are awaited!

Physical Education

K3 – Gross motor activity – Batting

Children are encouraged to play in our outdoor- roof top play ground.  Every day, 15 minutes of physical activity is included in the schedule.

Nutrition

K4 enjoying lunch time!

Well balanced nutritious meals were prepared and served every day.  Children were fed breakfast and lunch on all working days.  Delicious meals were prepared and served with love every day at our Edelweiss School!

After School Program (ASP)

3rd graders – Kumudha and Agneesh writing their homework

With a total of 38 students of grades 1, 2, 3 and 4 the ASP program is going very well.  This program helps the students in the evening with their homework which they bring back from their respective schools.  This program is a supportive program which assists our previous graduates to keep up with their school work.  This month the program ran for 17 days with a total attendance of 595 children.  ABC provides evening snacks in the ASP program.

Special Celebrations

Happy Birthday Troy Sir!

ASP celebrating Troy Sir’s birthday!

Edelweiss School celebrated AlphaBet Club’s Founder, Troy Swanson’s birthday on September 22nd.  Children know Troy thanks to his few months long trip to India every year. They were eager to cut the cake and sing the birthday song for him.  Children enjoyed a special meal on his birthday!  Staff and children were very thankful to Troy and had lots of fun on that day.

Teachers Day Out at Garden Asia Resort

 

Edelweiss team – Garden Asia Resort!

Teachers were taken on a fun day outing to a resort near-by Bangalore for rejuvenation. There were many outdoor games and entertainment that everyone participated and enjoyed.  Throughout the day, some very special meals were served for the whole team.
