Edelweiss School February 2013 Newsletter Update

February is the 9th month of the school year, 2 months remaining.

A good start to the month! We had many visitors who spent the day with the kids, had fun and were happy to see the kids moving forward in their lives at Building Blocks Edelweiss. Many fun and exciting activities were planned for our classrooms. The children learned a lot of new things in their academics.

Learning Focus:

English:

The K5 kids are reviewing their Tricky words, Sounds, Formation, Blending and Dictation in their Jolly Phonics class. In Genki English class, the children were taught “I’m thirsty”, “How much?”, “How many?” The kids also enjoyed learning music through Brillkids Little Musician.

Math:

The kids are having fun learning Math through various fun activities. As part of this curriculum, the kids learned to classify objects through color, shape and size.

The K5 kids learned 1-20 on Flash cards. They learned counting numbers from 1-100. They were taught writing numbers from 1-50. The kids also learned counting numbers by 2’s, 10’s and ‘teens’. Addition, Subtraction, Before and After numbers and counting numbers with names has also been taught to the kids.

Science:  

The kids learned about the Ocean, the creatures that lived under the ocean and transportation on the ocean.

Physical Education:

The kids learned fundamental body movements like Walking, Running etc.

Character Development:

The character development card for the kids in this month was ‘Truthful’.

Visitors:

February 1st

The sponsor of Edelweiss, Mr. Troy Swanson, and Mr. Neils, visited the learning centre on the 1st of February. They received a traditional welcome by the staff, with a flower garland, kumkumtika on their forehead and sweets. The children and the guests shared the same excitement and happiness when they met each other.

Mr. Troy and Mr. Neils later paid a visit to the kids’ houses in the slum.

February 5th

Ms. Jashoda from Boeing paid a visit to Edelweiss, she was extremely happy to see the kids and their performances. She congratulated all the staff for having done such a good job.

February 7th

Mr. Henry visited Edelweiss and distributed chocolates to all the kids. The day was filled with fun and frolic.

Educational Visitors:

Mr. Josef Bogerfuerst visited Edelweiss dressed like a professor and taught the kids how to be attentive. Children enjoyed the stories and acts performed by him.

Mr. Jonathan shared his knowledge of English with the Edelweiss staff. He also trained them on the correct usage of the English language, which was highly effective.

Celebration at Edelweiss

February 14th – Valentine’s Day:

All of the students and the teachers at Edelweiss celebrated Valentine’s Day on the 14th of February.

Mr. Troy Swanson also joined the Edelweiss kids and the entire staff to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

They shared lots of love with each other. The kids had a fun time playing with heart-shaped balloons and eating Dutch Stroopwafels.

On March 2nd at Freesia New Learning Center Opening Ceremony, We also celebrated surpassing a milestone of serving 60,000 nutritious meals to the kids studying here. A great achievement!
