Each Child gets a Toy.
Thanks to “Ñ” team (marketing company), AlphaBet Club Madrid signed an agreement with La Moraleja Green (Shopping Mall in the north of Madrid) to run a campaign during Christmas period to collect toys for our projects. On top of that, we threw a Three Wise Men Party where requirement to join was to bring a toy. As a result, we managed to collect over three cubic meters of toys that ABC Madrid volunteers packed, classified and prepared for delivery by clearing all customs requirements.
Toys were sent to two different projects. One was to when Giles and Diego took a part to our school and nutritional projects in Bangalore (India). The other waas through the NGO – ACOES delivered remaining toys among kids at Santa Teresa de Jesus school and several kindergartens in Tegucigalpa (Honduras).

ABC donated and delivered toys to 25 school children who live in slums in Goa, India. Each child received two gifts and some candy and the school was given jump ropes, drums, plastic animal figures, hula hoops and rubber balls for all the children to use. These gifts were very well received as many of the children do not have toys to play with. ABC was received with songs and holiday dances and heartfelt smiles.
The AlphaBet Club volunteers visited children in hospitals around Amsterdam and delivered gifts to them to brighten their holiday spirits.
“Many thanks to the dedicated and fun members of the ABC club who hugely contributed to the successful Zwartepieten project this December (2009) in Amsterdam. We appreciate your donations and volunteering to help ensure a smile on the faces of a lot of sick and hospitalized children who weren’t able to celebrate Sinterklaas at home with their loved ones.”
In 2009, a 4 room Primary school in Phiangdokkam, (Northern) Laos was inaugurated thanks to the AlphaBet Club funding Room to Read Foundation. This is the first educational infrastructure project that the ABC funded, and we’re pleased with how the project turned out and the impact that it had on children in the local community.
The building took five months to complete with labor provided by 1,200 volunteers from the community and was ready for use on October 2, 2009: it serves 172 students in grades 1 – 5. This building replaced the old school, a building that was in poor condition, made of wood and bamboo with sheet metal roofs and dirt floors. The new building covers an area of 28m long x 8m wide and is a sturdy, four room brick structure erected on a concrete foundation, with steel-reinforced ground and roof … Read more »
ABC has sponsored a Vietnamese girl to attend primary and secondary school at a Room to Read school in her village. This sponsorship began this year and covers 10 years of her studies through primary and secondary school. Room to Read does not share any specific information on children sponsored but does offer a great report of their educational sponsorship program.
“Economics, cultural bias and gender discrimination often exclude girls from educational opportunities in the developing world. Yet, it is widely acknowledged that educating girls is the most powerful and effective way to address global poverty – and the single best investment one can make. When girls learn, their families, communities and societies all benefit. Educating girls is directly linked to positive outcomes, including:
Lower infant mortality rates
Increased eventual wages
Increased likelihood of educating the next generation
Improved family health
Success in combating the spread … Read more »
